Nicholas Moore directs this tweeny bopper fish-out-of-water comedy starring Emma Roberts. Poppy (Roberts) is a spoiled Malibu brat, and the film opens with her wreaking havoc on her stepmother's moving-in day. Her father (Aidan Quinn) decides he's had it with her wild ways and promptly packs her off to an English boarding school. Poppy arrives at Abbey Mount with blond extensions, a designer wardrobe, and plenty of attitude, and she is furious when she is forced to follow the school's strict code of conduct. She is determined to find some way back to sunny Malibu. She soon befriends her roommates, a loyal, fun-l...

oving troop of girls, who agree to help her come up with a way to get kicked out of school. They devise a scheme for Poppy to get caught fooling around with the headmistress's (Natasha Richardson) son, Freddie (Alex Pettyfer), but things soon go awry when Poppy's rival Harrier (Georgia King) tries to step in and foil her plan. Poppy is forced to make some big changes, and decide what it is she truly wants.
Emma Roberts is perhaps best known as the niece of Julia, and her wide smile is indeed reminiscent of her superstar aunt's, as is her feisty charm and likeability. This film is loud, silly fun, and it manages to send forth some very positive messages without sucking all the joy out of being a teen. It does touch on sex and underage drinking, so it might not be for the lower tween set. But for the older crew--this one is sure to be a sleepover favorite.

Poppy is a bratty, self-absorbed 16-year-old whose pampered L.A. childhood has left her with a notable sense of self entitlement. Showered with unlimited-balance credit cards and constantly flanked by a horde of hangers-on, the ill-mannered Poppy loudly lets her parents know just how frustrated she is with her current family situation. When Poppy p...

ulls a prank that goes further over the top than she originally intended, however, her frustrated father (Aidan Quinn) decides that it's high time his spoiled daughter understands the true concept of discipline and sends her off to boarding school in England. Upon arriving at her new school, American princess Poppy is taken aback to learn that she must follow the rules laid out by the stern matrons in charge, be in bed by curfew, and of course take part in mandatory lacrosse matches. While Poppy is at first confident that she can contend with any and all of these stifling lifestyle changes without due concern, there's one variable that hasn't factored into her self-centered equation -- her classmates. Now, as Poppy begins to realize that her British classmates simply won't tolerate her self-centered ways, she reluctantly admits defeat while vowing to shake up her stuffy school as she makes the transition from reckless youth to refined lady. With the ever-present headmistress (Natasha Richardson) presiding watchfully over the student body, however, Poppy mischievously sets out to prove that just because you're proper doesn't mean you can't have a little fun every now and then.

Considering she's the Nickelodeon-series leading scion of Hollywood royalty, the daughter of Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts , Emma Roberts has been laudable in her desire to mix it up a bit. Of course, there were the early teen vehicles, like " Aquamarine ," " Wild Child " and " Hotel For Dogs ," but she's also mixed up her Hollywood fare like " Scream 4 " with theoretically more interesting indie films, like " Lymelife ," " It's Kind of a Funny Story " and "The Art of Getting By." We can't say we've been huge fans of any of them, but it at least shows a desire to be something other than America's next sweetheart. Sadly, it looks like the actress' most interesting prospective project won't be coming to pass. Eyebrows were raised last year when it was announced that the 20-year-old actress was set to star alongside James Franco and fellow tween idols Vanessa Hudgens and Selena
