A day in the life of the employees of Empire Records. Except this is a day where everything comes to a head for a number of them facing personal crises - can they pull through together? And more importantly, can they keep their record store independent and not swallowed up by corporate greed?
This rocking, slice-of-life comedy examines one so-strange-it's-normal day at a busy record store, from the manager's attempts to cope with his bizarre young staff to the loves, lusts and whinings of his slacker clerks. From the director of "Pump Up the Volume."
A funky little record shop provides the setting for this youthful comedy that centers on the workers there as they try to help poor Joe Anthony LaPaglia), the manager who really wants to buy the place, recoup his losses after his well-meaning, but dim-bulbed employee Lucas (Rory Cochrane ) steals his savings and loses it all in Atlantic City while trying to increase it twofold at the gaming tables. If they cannot come up with the loot, the mega-chain Music City will buy it.
Empire Records is de locale platenzaak, en zowat de trekpleister van alle jongeren uit de buurt. Maar wanneer de zaak door een keten dreigt overgenomen te worden, gaan de poppen aan het dansen.
Story traces a single tumultuous day in the lives of several young slackers who work at a bustling store named Empire Records. Anything can happen and everything does--relationships are tested and dilemmas are solved.. all just this side of the law.
