Lola Versus

This relationship comedy is an unfunny exercise in self-love and self-absorption… the audience. Or versus anyone who wants a couple of hours in the cinema without screaming in pure irritation. Lola is "versus" them all: a formidable opponent, a Napoleon, commanding armies of annoyance and affectation. This is an almost unbearable relationship comedy starring Greta Gerwig as Lola, a New York PhD student in her late 20s whose fiance Luke ( Joel Kinnaman ) dumps her just shy of her 30th birthday, leaving her to develop painfully inappropriate feelings for his quirky best friend Henry ( Hamish Linklater ). It is an uncompromisingly unfunny exercise in self-love and self-absorption, in which nothing in the movie is convincingly real, and yet there is also nothing among its baroque inventions likely to raise a laugh.
