Aka: The Grinch
Based on the book by the famous Dr. Seuss. Inside a snowflake exists the magical land of Whoville. In Whoville, live the Who's, an almost mutated sort of munchkinlike people. All the Who's love Christmas, yet just outside of their beloved Whoville lives the Grinch. The Grinch is a nasty creature that hates Christmas, and plots to steal it away from the Whos which he equally abhors. Yet a small child, Cindy Lou Who, decides to try befriend the Grinch.
Director Ron Howard casts comedian Jim Carrey in the title role in this live-action adaptation of the famous Christmas tale by Dr. Seuss, giving this rendition of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS a delightfully manic spin. Carrey is virtually unrecognizable in his elaborate green makeup, but his anarchic comic touch is unmistakable. He manages to fully embody the grumpy title character, while still supplying his own comedic touches, and it is his performance that makes the film a treat for adults and children alike. The candy-colored set design for the town of Whoville and the jubilant score contribute to the overa...

ll feeling of innocuous fantasy that the Grinch disrupts with his dastardly deeds. The familiar story of the Grinch stealing every present in town on Christmas Eve has been expanded to incorporate flashbacks to the Grinch's childhood, which serve to explain his hostility toward the Whos. As Cindy Lou-Who, a little girl so sweet she sees goodness even in the Grinch, young Taylor Momsen strikes just the right note of adorable ingenuousness. Howard gets the performance the film needs from her, as her character makes the Grinch's eventual change of heart both believable and touching.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas News Articles
You already know that the road of Dr. Seuss projects to the big screen is littered with carcasses (" The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" and "Cat In The Hat" in particular) but on the animated front, things have fared a bit better. "Horton Hears A Who" was respectful in its star studded approach, and the makers behind " Dr. Seuss' The Lorax " (not really sure the author's name needs to be in the title, but we digress) are hoping they too can do the same. And for the most part, they have. A new trailer, awkwadly introduced by Danny DeVito (dear studios, having stars/directors intro trailers doesn't make them more special) gives us our best look at the movie yet, running nearly three minutes long. And it's not bad. While the humor isn't particularly gutbusting, the overall tone is charming enough, with some inventive design particularly when it comes to the dark elements of the story.
