The Gift (2000)

Annie Wilson is een jonge vrouw met een paranormale gave. Via kaartlezen ziet zij wat er in het leven van anderen gebeurt en probeert een handje te helpen. Deze bemoeienissen worden echter niet door iedereen in dank afgenomen. Wanneer ze een van haar buurvrouwen aanraadt weg te vluchten voor de mishandelingen van haar brute echtgenoot, krijgt ze al snel doodsbedreigingen. De man wordt er trouwens ook van verdacht iets te maken te hebben met de verdwijning van een mooie jonge vrouw. Het onderzoeksteam roept de hulp van Annie in, die daardoor haar leven op het spel zet.

al supernatural thriller. Director Sam Raimi (A SIMPLE PLAN) and DP Jamie Anderson use the huge gnarled trees and foggy swamps of Savannah to create a palpable sense of dread, and Raimi really knows how to jolt an audience. The script, by Billy Bob Thornton (SLING BLADE) and Tom Epperson, has enough twists to keep the audience guessing. Blanchett is very believable, and Giovanni Ribisi gives a heart-wrenching performance as Buddy Cole, a disturbed young man who seeks Annie's counsel. Their relationship gives the film an emotional weight that makes it more than just a good thriller.
