Three stories of life along the margins in Mexico City converge in this inventive thriller. And finally, El Chivo (Emilio Echeverria) is an elderly homeless man who is trying to contact his daughter, whom he hasn't seen in years. Desperate for money, El Chivo is hired by a businessman to assassinate his partner; however, as he's following his target, he's interrupted by an auto accident, from which Octavio and his injured dog stagger in search of help. Amores Perros (aka Love's a Bitch) was the debut from director Alexandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Amores Perros vertelt het verhaal van drie mensen in Mexico City. In het eerste verhaal wordt Octavio verliefd op zijn schoonzus Suzanna en wil een nieuw leven met haar beginnen. Om aan geld te komen geeft hij zijn hond Cofi aan een man die hondengevechten organiseert. Daniel heeft zijn gezin verlaten om in te trekken bij de beeldschone Valeria. Kort daarna raakt ze verminkt door een auto-ongeluk. Dan is er nog El Chivo, een huurmoordenaar, die zijn dochter zoekt die hij jaren niet meer gezien heeft. El Chivo volgt een prooi en is dan getuige van een auto ongeluk waar bij Octavio en Valerie betrokken zijn.
