Aka: Untitled Nancy Pimental Project
To ease their roommate through a relationship-induced depression, Christina Walters and Courtney Rockcliffe take her out on the town. During their attempts to find her "Mr. Right Now", Christina meets Peter Donahue. Missing her opportunity with him that night, Christina is talked into pursuing him to his brother's wedding.
Where can a girl who is usually the heartbreaker find the perfect guy? For Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz), the answer is the San Francisco nightclub where she meets Peter Donahue (Thomas Jane). Unfortunately, their meeting is fleeting and this quintessential hip party girl is left in unfamiliar territory--smitten by a total stranger. Determined to see her best friend happy, Courtney Rockliffe (Christina Applegate) takes Christina on a road trip to Peter's sleepy California hometown in search of the man of her dreams. In the meantime, Christina's roommate, the just-dumped Jane Burns (Selma Blair), engages in her...
own lusty pursuits. Diaz and Applegate have great chemistry and are utterly believable as best friends. The script by Nancy M. Pimental, who wrote for South Park, blends raunchy humor and sentimentality, both of which are complimented by a healthy dose of sight gags. Directed by Roger Kumble (CRUEL INTENTIONS), THE SWEETEST THING is an amusing--albeit somewhat crude--look at what people will do for love. The film also features Jason Bateman in fine form as Peter's brother, indie queen Parker Posey as a bride-to-be, and a brief appearance by Applegate's real-life husband, actor Jonathan Schaech.
Former South Park writer and Win Ben Stein's Money sidekick Nancy Pimental makes her feature screenwriting debut with this relationship comedy. Cameron Diaz stars as Christina Walters, a jaded, club-hopping single woman in San Francisco who has given up trying to find the perfect mate to focus on "Mr. Right Now." Her equally cynical friend, Courtney (Christina Applegate), a divorce attorney, shares much the same attitude, while their pal, Jane (Selma Blair), is more starry-eyed and naïve. Christina's attitude gets an unexpected makeover one evening at a nightclub when she meets Peter Donahue (Thomas Jane), a rea...
l estate agent she finds adorable and just about perfect. Unfortunately, Peter leaves and all Christina knows about him is that his brother, Roger (Jason Bateman), is getting married soon in their small hometown. Recognizing her friend's romantic distress, Courtney suggests they road trip to the wedding and Christina agrees, leading to encounters with a series of obstacles, including some funky leftovers, a filthy service station restroom, and a rather unpleasant revelation once the women arrive at the nuptials. The Sweetest Thing co-stars Parker Posey.
