Inventor Gepetto creates a wooden marionette called Pinocchio. His wish that Pinocchio be a real boy is unexpectedly granted by a fairy. The fairy assigns Jiminy Cricket to act as Pinocchio's "conscience" and keep him out of trouble. Jiminy is not too successful in this endeavor and most of the film is spent with Pinocchio deep in trouble.
Walt Disney's second full-length animated feature is a timeless, breathtakingly beautiful classic. Based on an 1800s story by Carlo Collodi, it stars Jiminy Cricket (voiced by Cliff Edwards) as a vagabond insect who spends a rainy night at the shop of toymaker Geppetto. With such songs as "When You Wish Upon a Star," this is about as magical as cinema can get, a sublimely beautiful coming-of-age story for all to treasure.

Based on a series of stories by 19th century Italian author Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio came under fire for being a sugarcoated version of its original tale, but the film's moral did have a strong educational effect on children. Soon enough, a 16 mm excerpt from the picture, titled "Pinocchio: A Lesson in Honesty," was released for teachers to use in schools.

Gepetto maakt een houten pop, en noemt 'm Pinocchio. Zijn wens dat Pinocchio een echt jongetje zal zijn wordt door een fee waarheid gemaakt. Ze wijst de krekel Jimmy aan om als Pinocchio's geweten op te treden, en hem uit de problemen te houden. Hij is hier echter niet echt succesvol in. Disneyversie van Carlo Collodi's beroemde verhaal.

Tim Burton has two movies coming out in 2012, Dark Shadows [1] and Frankenweenie [2], but what he does after that is very much up in the air. The Batman, Edward Scissorhands [3] and Alice in Wonderland director is attached to several different projects [4] but, as of this moment, his interest is mostly on something new: a live-action version [5] of the classic Carlo Collodi book and Disney film Pinocchio . And he'd like Robert Downey Jr. to play the woodcarver who makes a real life boy. Read more after the jump.
