Miss Ethel 'Dynamite' Jackson is a chorus girl who mistakingly receives an invitation from the State Department to represent the American theatre at an arts exposition in Paris, France. There's only one problem, the invitation was meant for Miss Ethel Barrymore. Meanwhile, S. Winthrop Putnam, the bureaucrat who made the mistake tries unsuccessfully to correct his mix-up. It's too late, for Dynamite Jackson is off to Paris, where the two meet and marry, or so they think!
Ethel 'Dynamite' Jackson is een koorzangeres. Per ongeluk ontvangt zij een uitnodiging om tijdens een kunsttentoonstelling in Parijs het Amerikaanse theater te vertegenwoordigen. De uitnodiging was echter bestemd voor Ethel Barrymore. Verantwoordelijk voor deze fout is de bureaucraat Winthrop Putnam. Hij probeert dan ook angstvallig zijn fout recht te zetten. Maar het is te laat. Ethel is al vertrokken naar Parijs en er zit niets anders op dan haar achterna te reizen.
Thanks to a bureaucratic blunder, the US State Department invites brassy showgirl Doris Day to attend a chi-chi arts festival in Paris. En route to the City of Light, Day falls in love with diplomat corps flunkey Ray Bolger (who's responsible for the error), even though he's married to witchy Eve Miller. The marriage turns out to be invalid, clearing the path for a happy ending. None of the songs in April in Paris are worth remembering, though the dancing by Bolger and Day is well up to the standards of both performers.
