After the death of their friend Shelley, Leann Cole receives a voice mail from the future of the date and time when she would die. Een groep mensen ontvangt mysterieuze telefoontjes. Ze horen de angstige laatste momenten van hun eigen leven. Beth Raymond beleeft een schokkende periode wanneer ze twee goede vrienden ziet sterven. Bovendien weet ze dat zij allebei een dergelijk telefoontje hebben ontvangen. En zij sterven vervolgens precies zoals de telefoontjes hadden voorspeld. "The Ring" and "The Grudge" remakes were both massive hits, each spawning a sequel (the latter even got a third, straight-to-dvd entry), but that seemed to be the extent of interest from audiences.
