Corey is a cool, aristocratic thief, released from prison on the same day that Vogel, a murderer, escapes from the custody of the patient Mattei, a cat-loving police superintendent. Corey robs Rico, his mob boss, then enlists Vogel and an ex-police sharpshooter, Jansen, in a jewel heist. While Corey is harried by the vengeful Rico, Mattei pressures Santi, a nightclub owner and pimp, to help him trap the thieves. Over all hangs the judgment of the police directeur, that every man is guilty.
Jean-Pierre Melville's hugely influential film remains a cornerstone of the crime genre. Recently released from prison, thief Corey (Alain Delon) finds himself caught up in a dangerous triangle with a mysterious woman (Gian Maria Volonte) and an ex-cop with some issues of his own (Yves Montand). Melville's film is the epitome of cool, with moody cinematography and stellar set design. Featuring another standout performance from Delon, Le Cercle Rouge is a bona fide crime classic.
Corey (Alain Delon) is the young gun in the French underworld who has just been released from prison. Escaped convict Vogel (Gian-Maria Volonté) hides in the trunk of Corey's car. The two enlist the help of an alcoholic former cop (Yves Montand) for an elaborate jewelry-store robbery. Police inspector Mattei (Bourvil) whom Vogel escaped in the beginning of the film is on the case trying to recapture the criminals. He is not opposed to using blackmail techniques to get answers out of the unwilling witnesses and criminals brought in for questioning.

I finished watching the Harry Potter films before I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 this week, but I'm not going to include those below as I am Harry Potter'd out for the moment and there will be several opportunities to talk more about the boy wizard in the coming days. So, I will resign myself to just the one other film I watched this week and we'll open the floor after that to you... Rififi (1955) Quick Thoughts: I can't remember the exact reason I was inspired to watch Rififi again. I think it was a combination of watching and reviewing Jean Pierre- Melville 's Le Cercle Rouge and Robert Aldrich 's Kiss Me Deadly that sealed the deal as the noir aspects can be felt in Kiss Me Deadly and the quiet as a mouse heist sequence was mirrored 15 years later by Melville in Le Cercle Rouge .
