Following her sister's death from drug addiction, a high school student is forced to leave her private school to return to her old, crime-filled neighborhood where she re-kindles an unlikely passion for the competitive world of step dancing.
De ouders van Raya (Rutina Wesley) zijn door een ongeval al hun vermogen kwijtgeraakt. Omdat er niet veel geld over is kan Raya niet meer op een privé school en belandt ze op een openbare school. Omdat Raya graag medicijnen wil gaan studeren heeft ze geld nodig en grijpt daarom de kans om bij een step dance groep te komen om zo geld te verdienen om haar droom uit te laten komen.
