Police in 1928 Austria arrest Phillippe Halsman, of Jewish origin, for Patricide and allege that he killed his father, Morduch, while on a hiking trip. Phillippe is defended by a Jewish lawyer, Richard Pressburger, who quickly comes to the conclusion that Judge Larcher is prejudiced against his client. This allegation prompts Larcher to warn Richard to continue defending his client - or join him in the cell for contempt charges. The question remains will Richard continue to defend his client or give up this case as he probably realizes that there is no chance of a fair trial.
Based on a true story and set in 1920s Austria, this drama recounts the corrupt trial of a young Jew (Ben Silverstone) accused of his father's murder. His only chance at freedom rests on the shoulders of his Jewish attorney (Patrick Swayze).
10 september 1928. De uit Riga afstammende Joodse tandarts Morduch Halsman, onderneemt een bergreis samen met zijn 22-jarige zoon Philippe. De verhouding tussen vader en zoon is al een tijdje erg gespannen. Wanneer Morduch tijdens een trektocht overlijdt, valt de verdenking al snel op zijn zoon, alhoewel er heel veel zijn onschuld bewijst en hij beweert dat zijn vader in de afgrond is gestort. Maar de in die tijd steeds machtiger wordende nationaalsocialisten willen echter met Philippe een voorbeeld stellen voor het hele jodendom. En zo wordt Philippe onder arrest geplaatst en van vadermoord beschuldigd.
