In een geheime regeringslaboratorium, hoog in de bergen, worden reuzespinnen gefokt en genetisch gemodificeerd om hun supersterke zijde te gebruiken voor lichtgewicht bepantsering en nieuwe wapens. Ontevreden met de resultaten neemt een wetenschapper in het geheim enkele drastische maatregelen. Maar dan ontsnappen de zeer agressieve spinnen en vallen ze de nabijgelegen ski-resort binnen, dood en verderf zaaiend.
