A young man with a talent for music has begun a career with much promise. He meets an aspiring singer, Apollonia, and finds that talent alone isn't all that he needs. A complicated tale of his repeating his father's self destructive behavior, losing Apollonia to another singer (Morris Day), and his coming to grips with his own connection to other people ensues.

The dramatic complications include "The Kid's" (Prince) miserable home life, where he suffers the brutalities of his father (well played by Clarence Williams III) and the youth's efforts to win the love of the beautiful Apollonia. It was a busy week for me, not only did I see three films in theaters, I watched the three films I detail below (one of them twice) as well as watched Criterion's recently released Blu-ray Kuroneko and Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings... I'll have a review of Wrong Turn 4 for you in the next 48 hours (hopefully 24), but for now here are my thoughts on the four other films... Taken (2009) I watched this last night as my girlfriend and I were flipping around the channels and landed on it on FX, then a commercial came on and I grabbed the Blu-ray and popped it in. By the time we were done watching there was still 30 minutes left in the on air version... Commercials, what a nightmare. I also was watching the final moments of Purple Rain on VH1 after watching Taken and they actually went to a commercial after Prince
