The results are generally satisfactory, though the film is sometimes weighed down by too much plot, and the action sequences may not be suitable for very young children. Incidentally, this is the film where co-star Val Kilmer met his future wife Joanne Whalley.

In de kerkers van het kasteel van de boze tovenares Bavmorda geeft een gevangene geboorte aan een baby, die volgens de legendes een eind zal brengen aan de duistere tijden van de slechte koningin. Een vroedvrouw redt de baby van Bavmorda en zet het nog net op tijd in de rivier voordat de honden van de koningin haar te pakken krijgen.
