Michael, a college student, visits his girlfriend Gabriella and her family for Christmas in Canada. When he gets there, she tells him that she doesn't love him any more. Meanwhile, her family is exceedingly strange: her father is a writer who spends most of his time wandering the house nude. Her grandmother mistakes Michael for her dead husband. Her two sisters express interest in him. Granny escapes the hospital and heads back to her home in the woods, and the family chases after her, and Michael is kept reeling.

Michael (Patrick Dempsey) is a college student invited to spend Christmas vacation in Quebec City with his sweetheart Gabby (Jennifer Connelly) and her family. The wide-eyed Michael sees the city as a fairytale land with the splendid architecture gently dusted by the falling snow. When Michael arrives, Gabby tells him she is breaking up with him, and separate sleeping arrangements are made, and Gabby's mother (Florinda Bolkan) makes sure the visitor adheres to Gabby's wishes. Former “ The O.C. ” heartthrob Adam Brody has come a long way from his days of covering for bad boy buddy Ryan Atwood in the privileged California community. Since his breakout turn in the Fox drama, he’s stolen the show in everything from big budget blockbusters like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” to the Jason Reitman -directed “ Thank You For Smoking ,” and most recently has been carving out a niche for himself in independent drama and comedies like the forthcoming “ The Oranges ,” and Whit Stillman ’s “Damsels in Distress,” and was recently cast in the long-gestating Linda Lovelace biopic “ Lovelace .” It certainly seems like his days as Seth Cohen are far behind him. Variety is reporting that Brody can now add another intriguing project to his increasingly busy slate of films as the lead in the Neil Labute penned adaptation of his own play “ Some Girls ,” which is set to be helmed by Jennifer.
